Third Annual Plunge – Saturday, January 28, 2012 12:30 p.m.
FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON

Please join us for this great fundraiser, which will provide needed funds for the Skaneateles Education Foundation, SAVES (Skaneateles Ambulance Volunteer Emergency Services) and the Skaneateles Fire Department.  You will also be supporting the Sunrise Rotary Club Winterfest, which helps provide family fun and financial support for a variety of community services.

EASY TO REGISTER

It's never too early to start raising money for the Plunge!

Please print out a sponsor form and begin obtaining sponsors.  We suggest a fundraising goal of $100, beyond your registration fee.  This is a great way for people who DO NOT want to plunge, to help out the cause.

Pre-registration is $50 .  REGISTRATION IS $60 for all participants on the day of the event!!!

The first 50 registrants will receive a very cool Skaneateles Polar Bear Club fleece hat with your registration.  Additionally, there are the following prizes for those who go above and beyond…

All Powerful Polar Bear
The individual who raises the largest amount of money will receive a prize.

All Powerful Polar Bear Pack Trophy
The team consisting of the Polar Bears raising the most money will receive the Polar Bear Pack trophy, to be displayed at a location of their choice for one year.

The more you raise, the more cool prizes you get!

Plunging as a TEAM vs. INDIVIDUAL

If you would like to take the Plunge with a specific group of people (family, friends, co-workers, etc.) simply come up with a team name and put it on your registration form!  If you are an individual plunger, indicate that you will be plunging as an individual on your registration form.

Teams of 3 or more – pre-registration is $40 per plunger.  You save $10 per polar bear!!!

Third Annual Plunge – Saturday, January 28, 2012 12:30 p.m.
FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON

Fearless (or foolish?) Skaneateles residents to go swimming for Charity on Saturday, January 28 in Skaneateles Lake. Despite the recent, unusually warm temperatures, it will still be cold!  For the plunge, we are expecting more than 70 intrepid swimmers, clad in unusual attire (but no wetsuits!) to walk into the lake, submerge themselves for at least 10 seconds, and then return to dry land to get back into some warm clothes and enjoy Winterfest.

And why would anyone be "freezin for a reason?" The third Annual Polar Bear Plunge will benefit local charities (Skaneateles Education Foundation; Skaneateles Ambulance Volunteer Emergency Services; Skaneateles Fire Department).

Ahhh, the madness of middle age.    Just because several swimmers are over 40 (some swimmers will be over 60), doesn't mean that youthful exuberance and a predilection for odd behavior should be discouraged.  No!  Let out your inner Yeti.  Bare yourself to the beauty of a central new york winter and to the many folks who will be watching!  Swim in the lake that supplies Syracuse with water.  Bellow in surprise and confusion as you enter the water, clad only in a swimsuit and a pair of Crocs.
The Polar Bear Plunge takes place at 12:00PM on Saturday, January 28 in Clift Park (right across from the Sherwood Inn).  There will be great photo opportunities (just visit our website at www.skanpolarbear.com or our Facebook page to see some of last years sillyness).  Everyone who plunges gets a commemorative pin, and the first 50 to sign up get a hat as well.   Medical personnel will be on hand - as well as joining for the swim.
